The fifth release from 1000Doors this year, the collective continues its campaign exploring instrumental Grime, with a quick switch into devilish mode, and introducing Shaytaan.

~ Square waves and PlayStations ~

Having produced for a Grime legend in the past under a different moniker, Shaytaan is not new to Grime. However, growing up in the Netherlands, he uniquely first found context in the genre by way of its early nods to video game music, something Shaytaan holds dear to him. Spirit Loops Vol. 1 is his ode to that cultural link.

Shaytaan takes an analytical approach to marking out the parameters of golden era Grime, before delivering a visceral and expressive EP. His previous tracks exclusive only to a handful of London DJs, Shaytaan here puts forward a brand new collection of instrumentals for the airwaves.

Drawing on early Wiley and Dizzee Rascal production values, Shaytaan lays foundation with video game samples, subtly embellished with enough sound design to create his own one-away sound bank, before building upwards with familiar sounds of Grime palette old.

By breathing the rich and otherworldly character of old JRPG soundtracks into the angular structures of early Grime, Shaytaan creates a new hybrid that is instantly recognizable to fans of Sidewinder tapes and Final Fantasy alike.
